This web site includes a Members Only section. This realm features training notes, movies and step-by-step photos, reinforcing what you learn in classes and helping students practice as part of their daily routine.
If you are not a member of the school, you are still welcome to join our Martial Arts Discussion Forums. Here you can talk about all the various martial arts styles with the schools instructors and other students. The forums are open to everyone. Click here to enter the Martial Arts Discussion Forums instead.
If you are a member of the school: To enter the members' section click on the Golden Ming symbol shown on the left. To enter you'll need to enter your User Name and Password. You can get these from Sifu Jason King. Allow about a week for these to be set up. If you are not a member of The Traditional School of Chinese Martial Arts please come to one of our classes or contact us.
Having trouble getting in? If you don't already have your User Name, please get it from Sifu Jason King. Your User Name will usually be your first name, but may be different if you have a common name. For example, if your name is Jackie Chan, your User Name would probably be "jackie". It is not your email address, your student number or anything to do with your Internet service provider. Both your User Name and Password are lower-case letters only, with no capitals, spaces or punctuation symbols. If you can't get in, you are either typing in the wrong thing as your user name or password. If you still can't in there may be a problem with the web server. Please let us know so we can investigate.
This is our school's symbol; The Chinese Character Ming. It means "brightness." The shape on the left is an icon symbolising of the Sun. The shape on the right symbolises the Crescent Moon. These are the two brighest objects in the heavens. Combine the two of them and you have a source of unequalled brilliance.
The Shaolin Temple, where martial arts originated, flourished under the Ming Dynasty ("Bright Dynasty"). When China was invaded in 1644 by Manchurians, the Shaolin Temple was attacked and the monks forced to flee. When monks met each other, they would greet each other by making a secret hand signal. The right fist would be balled up on represent the Sun. The left palm would be flat and open, representing the Crescent Moon. Held together, this mirrored the "Ming" symbol you see here.
(The history here was based on Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu by Jwing-Ming and Bolt, 1982).
